This convent of the Sisters of Bethlehem, first invited to Lithuania in 1994 by Archbishop Audrys Juozas Bačkis, came to Paparčiai on invitation of Kaišiadorys Bishop Juozas Matulaitis after Trakai proved unsuitable, helped locally by priest Bernardas Vidas Sajata. The sisters lived in Paparčiai roughly 2-3 years while building the convent, which consists of 16 small hermitages, one open to laypeople seeking solitude, separated by brick walls so the sisters rarely see each other face to face.
