A wooden chapel was founded here in 1676 by descendants of Samuel Naruto-Milavičius, replaced by a wooden church in 1790. The present brick church, designed by architect Vaclovas Michnevičius, was begun under priest Juozas Dargužas - who also founded a Lithuanian-language school and promoted sobriety locally - and built in stages spanning WWI: walls finished in 1924, vaults in 1926, flooring and organ restored in 1927, and the interior completed in 1928, though the bell tower was never finished. It blends neoclassical and neo-Gothic elements, holds a notable framed image of the Madonna and Child, and was restored in 1952 after WWII damage and again more substantially after Lithuania regained independence.
