Protected since 1999 within Pilskalne Parish, Augšdaugava Municipality, this nature reserve safeguards a glacier-carved valley along the Dubupīte stream, considered one of the deepest ravines in eastern Latvia. Steep slopes and ravine forests support oak, ash, elm, linden and maple, along with numerous rare or protected plant, lichen and habitat types recognized under the EU Natura 2000 network. The reserve's well-known Sprīdītis nature trail winds past dozens of wooden sculptures depicting characters from Anna Brigadere's fairy tale of the same name.
