Veģu krioklys

Krioklys, Kurzeme

The Veģu waterfall drops about 1.7 metres over an 11-metre stretch of the small Veģupīte stream in Veģi, Abava parish, Talsi novads, just below the Kandava-Kuldīga highway bridge. It forms where the water crosses dolomite of the Pļaviņa formation, an ancient reef barrier, and has been a protected natural monument since 1957. The cascade is most dramatic during spring floods and nearly dry in summer, since road construction in the 1960s blasted away part of the original drop, which once measured closer to 2.3 metres.
