The first Catholic church in Girdžiai was built in 1809, followed by a second wooden chapel in 1858, with a parish formally established around 1907. The current wooden church, of rectangular plan with a single tower and a separate freestanding wooden belfry in the churchyard, was built by parishioners in 1926 under priest Albinas Alseika. Dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, the parish became known for its St. Ann’s indulgence feast, which historically drew large crowds.
