Raudonė Castle Tower is the main 33.5 m tower of Raudonė Castle, one of the Panemunė castles on the Nemunas river's right bank in Jurbarkas district. The Renaissance-style residential castle was built in the late 16th century by Prussian nobleman Krišpinas Kiršenšteinas, distinguished by its five round towers - four at the corners and one in the center. Nazi forces blew up the main tower in 1944, also collapsing the southern wing; the castle was rebuilt in 1965 and the tower in 1968. Today the tower has stairs leading to an observation platform with a sweeping view over the Nemunas valley. The castle itself was built in the late 16th century by merchant Krišpinas Kiršenšteinas; after fire damage the Kiršenšteinas relatives (the Olendski family) sold it to Count Platon Zubov, a favorite of Catherine II, and for over 70 years it served as a school. Today the complex operates as a museum-gallery hosting community fairs, exhibitions, concerts and festivals, with spaces available for event rental.
