Panemunės pilis

Graži vieta, Tauragės apskritis

Panemunė Castle is a Renaissance-style fortified manor built in 1604-1610 by Hungarian merchant Janušas Eperješas on the bank of the Nemunas, later modified with Baroque and Classicist elements. Confiscated from the family after the 1831 uprising and later restored to relatives, it has been run since 1982 by the Vilnius Academy of Arts, which uses it for art exhibitions, concerts, student internships and artist residencies. The castle now also houses a museum-gallery, the "Kuknia" restaurant and a guest residence, open Tuesday-Sunday in summer and Wednesday-Sunday in winter.
