A wooden chapel built in 1780 was succeeded by a brick church in 1862, originally a branch of the Ariogala parish; that building burned during WWI, after which a temporary wooden structure served until 1931. The current neoclassical cruciform church, with a massive facade tower and turret, was completed in 1931 under Fr. Jonas Juodvirščius and consecrated in 1934 by Bishop Teofilius Matulionis, and sustained WWII damage but was rebuilt. The grounds include a brick fence and a wooden belfry, and Fr. Pius Žiugžda (1909-1989) is buried at the site.
