Bārbeles sēravots

Graži vieta, Zemgale

This mineral spring in Bārbele parish ranks among Latvia’s oldest known healing waters: a bathhouse was first built here around 1650 during the reign of Duke Jacob of Courland, and by the 18th century it was regarded as the country’s most potent therapeutic spring. Its water was historically credited with easing joint pain, arthritis, and swelling, though the resort was destroyed after World War II and never rebuilt. Protected as a geological monument since 1977, the site today preserves the old bathhouse foundations alongside a rest area, an information stand with historic photographs, and a path following the spring to where it joins the Iecava River.
