Šovenių piliakalnis

Graži vieta, Utenos apskritis

Šovenių piliakalnis is a first-millennium hillfort in the village of Šoveniai, Kavarsko seniūnija, Anykščiai district municipality. Its oval hilltop plateau measures roughly 30 by 25 meters and rises 6 to 10 meters above the surrounding land with steep slopes; excavations found a cultural layer up to 80 centimeters thick containing burnt clay fragments, slag and animal bones. An associated settlement covering about 0.2 hectares lies just to the southwest of the hill. Also known as Pakarklos kalnas, the site has been damaged by plowing and by the construction of a dam on the Piena river, and is no longer maintained as a visitor site.
