Gaidžio kopa is a genuine wind-blown sand dune deep in the Varėna forests of Dzūkija National Park, part of a roughly 10-kilometer belt of continental dunes. It is considered the only continental dune in Lithuania still actively shaped and moved by wind, giving it a coastal-dune look and texture despite sitting far from the sea. The surrounding pine forest makes the open sand surface a striking contrast to the typical Dzūkija landscape.
