Alaušo ežeras

Aktyvaus laisvalaikio vieta, Utenos apskritis

Covering nearly 1,077 hectares in Utena district, this is the tenth-largest lake in Lithuania and reaches a maximum depth of 42 meters. It stretches close to 6 km from north to south, holds two islands totaling about 6 hectares, and has water clarity of 4 to 6 meters in summer. The town of Sudeikiai sits on its southern shore, and around fifteen rural tourism homesteads operate along its banks, alongside a sandy, gently sloping beach suited to families. A local legend attributes the lake's name to a Baltic prince, Alaušas, said to have ruled from a hillfort on its eastern shore and asked for his ashes to be scattered in its waters.
