Lepelionių piliakalnis

Apžvalgos vieta, Alytaus apskritis

Rising above Lepelionys village in the Stakliškės eldership of Prienai district, this hillfort takes the shape of a truncated pyramid, with its western slope dropping 15 meters and its eastern slope 7.5 meters down to a defensive ditch 26 meters wide and 2 meters deep. Its oval summit platform, 13 by 10 meters, is still ringed by an earthen rampart that reaches 2 meters high on the eastern edge. Excavations in 1955 and 1971 recovered hand-made smooth and rough pottery dating from the end of the first millennium to the early second millennium, now held in the Lithuanian National Museum, and the site is also known historically as Balnakalnis and, from its silhouette, 'Napoleon's hat'.
