Biržai Regional Park was established in 1992 to protect Lithuania's unique karst landscape, shaped by countless sinkholes formed when groundwater dissolved underlying gypsum deposits. It covers 14,406 hectares. Most of the nearly 11,000 sinkholes found across northern Lithuania's karst region lie within this park - a natural feature found nowhere else in Lithuania.
