Rising 32 to 33 meters above the surrounding plain, this scarp marks the ancient shoreline of the Baltic Ice Lake, carved roughly 10,000 to 11,000 years ago as glacial meltwater eroded the sandstone edge of the Dundaga upland. Protected as a geological and geomorphological nature monument within Slītere National Park, the ridge exposes Middle Devonian sandstone, including the roughly 50-meter-long, 7-meter-high outcrop known as Dāvida pils. The surrounding forests and species-rich grasslands shelter EU-protected habitats along with ivy, lady's slipper orchids and wild garlic.
