Kāpnes uz Staburaga klinti

Pėsčiųjų takas, Vidzeme

A flight of concrete steps leads down toward the Daugava river in Staburaga parish, marking the spot where the roughly 18.5 meter high Staburags cliff once rose from the bank before the reservoir of the Pļaviņas hydroelectric station submerged it in 1966. The stairway and an adjoining platform let visitors look out over the water toward where the cliff, one of the most storied natural landmarks in Latvian folklore and literature, now lies beneath the surface. Nearby stand a 2003 memorial stone called Dieva auss (God's Ear) by sculptor Solveiga Vasiljeva and a replica of Aleksandra Briede's 1939 granite sculpture Daina.
