This grotto near the Viešvilė Church of the Transfiguration was built in 2018 to mark the 160th anniversary of the Marian apparition at Lourdes and Lithuania’s centenary of independence, through a joint parish, community and institutional effort. Authentic stones recovered during a street reconstruction were incorporated into the build, and it features a Virgin Mary and St. Bernadette composition recalling the original Lourdes site, serving as a quiet sacred place for believers, pilgrims and visitors.
