This small hydroelectric power plant was built in 1998 on the Strėva river in Bačkonys village, next to the site of a former Bačkonys power station built in 1955 and operated until the 1970s. It was the first 300 kW plant of UAB "Renerga," producing 1.7 million kWh annually; per landscape-heritage recommendations the company reinforced the slopes of nearby hillforts next to the plant.
