Šaukėnai manor appears in written sources as early as the 15th century, when the Šemeta family held it; its buildings later housed an agricultural school in 1931, then a tuberculosis sanatorium and a psychiatric hospital. The 19th century landscape park mixes oak and linden avenues, ponds and viewing mounds with exotic species such as European hornbeams reaching 22 to 26 meters tall.
