Sekionių oak

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

This oak of impressive size grows in the old Sekionys cemetery, where burials no longer take place. Its trunk girth measures 7.15 meters (at 1.3 meters height), its height 21 meters, its diameter 2.28 meters and its crown area 144 square meters, making it the thickest oak measured to date in Kaišiadorys district municipality, though it is not on the official protected-trees list. Local lore holds it may have been a pagan sacrificial site, and that seven children who died of an illness in a single day were buried there, expanding the small cemetery.
