Vizlas nature trail

Žygis, Vidzeme

Following the winding course of the Vizla River to its confluence with the Gauja, this one-way trail covers 1.2 kilometers within the protected Ziemeļgauja nature area near Vidaga. It starts at a dolomite arch bridge built in 1834, the oldest of its kind in Latvia, and passes dolomite outcrops along with the Žākļi boulder, a glacial erratic roughly 3.4 meters high and 6 meters long. A stretch of this riverbank also served as a filming location for the 1978 Latvian film 'Pūt, vējiņi!'.
