Graži vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis
Karvaičių kopa rises about 59 meters within the Karvaičiai landscape reserve on the Curonian Spit, between the villages of Preila and Pervalka in Neringa municipality. The dune buries the site of Karvaičiai, one of the spit's oldest settlements, first recorded in the fifteenth century, whose houses and church were gradually engulfed by shifting sand after protective forests nearby were cut down around 1600. The last residents left in 1797, resettling in Juodkrantė, Nida, and Nagliai. The buried village was the birthplace of Liudvikas Rėza (1776-1840), a folklorist, poet, and professor at Königsberg University.
