Saunja vaatetorn

Apžvalgos vieta, Laanemaa

At the end of the 1.2 km Saunja nature trail in the Silma nature reserve, Lääne County, a wooden bird observation tower rises above a coastal meadow with views out to Saunja bay and the surrounding wetlands. The trail leading to it passes through young pine forest, mixed woodland and meadow vegetation dotted with cloudberry, honeysuckle and bird cherry, and is level enough for a stroller. Thousands of migratory birds, including greater white-fronted and greylag geese, stop at Saunja and the nearby Tahu bay during spring and autumn passage, while great egrets and cranes appear in summer alongside cattle that graze the meadow to keep it open.
