This state-protected geological monument exposes glacial deposits on the right bank of the Venta river near Papilė, reached from the Kuršėnai to Mažeikiai highway by turning onto Raudonskardžio street. Beneath a thin soil layer, the outcrop reveals reddish carbonate moraine clay left behind as the last Nemunas glaciation melted, with a second red moraine layer and, deeper still, gray clay mixed with gravel at about 7.5 meters. Grain orientation analysis of these sediments shows the glacier retreated from different directions during successive stages, making the site a rare open window onto the region’s Ice Age history within Venta Regional Park.
