Graži vieta, Alytaus apskritis
Built in 1825 as a wooden replacement for two earlier churches lost to fire, this church in Pivašiūnai ranks among the most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites in the Diocese of Kaišiadorys. Its venerated image of the Virgin Mary, which local tradition holds survived both blazes, was crowned in 1988 by Cardinal Vincentas Sladkevičius with a tiara donated by Pope John Paul II and given the title "Consoler of the Afflicted." Each August the Žolinė (Assumption) feast draws thousands of pilgrims from across Lithuania and abroad for a week of celebrations.
