Constructed in 1939 as the Soviet military built up coastal defenses in newly occupied Latvia, this fire-correction tower directed the four B-13 gun positions of the 46th Coastal Defense Battery and saw combat on 24 June 1941 when the battery helped repel German torpedo boats attacking Ventspils harbor. The guns were destroyed days later as Soviet forces withdrew, and the site subsequently remained in military use into the Soviet period before decommissioning. Restored as the only battery of its kind so well preserved in Latvia, and the only such tower rebuilt for public access in the Baltic states, it now offers an internal staircase up to an open platform with sea views, plus a telescope and information panels added in 2025.
