Founded by Jonas Mykolas Berlič-Strutinskis and later his son Juozapas together with his wife Rožė of the Plater family, the monastery complex in Antalieptė, in the Zarasai district, went up between 1732 and 1734, with the attached Church of the Holy Cross Discovery finished in 1760 and consecrated in 1763; a brick monastery wing followed between 1804 and 1832. After the 1831 uprising, Russian imperial authorities closed the Carmelite house in 1832, turned the church into an Orthodox cathedral and converted the monastery into barracks, and an Orthodox women's convent later used the grounds from 1893 to 1906. The church was returned to Catholics in 1918, and the surviving monastery building today has been repurposed as the Inovatorių Slėnis (Innovators' Valley) center.
