Krioklys, Vorumaa
On the Vaidava river in the village of Grūbe, Apes parish, part of present-day Smiltenes novads, this waterfall drops in two steps for a combined height of about 4.2 to 4.3 meters over a width of roughly 4 meters, exposing Pļaviņa-stage dolomite rock. Water mills operated at the site from the 19th century, and a paper factory with a sawmill later became the area's largest employer until World War II. A dam built in 1951 created a reservoir that ran until 1972, and in 1999 the site was redeveloped into a small hydroelectric station with a remotely controlled turbine, so the falls can run dry when the station diverts flow through its own channel.
