Trakų salos ir pusiasalio pilių draustinis

Graži vieta, Vilniaus apskritis

This 26-hectare cultural reserve, established in 1993, protects the two Trakai castle complexes together with the surrounding land and lakes: the island castle, built from the second half of the 14th century under Grand Dukes Kęstutis and Vytautas (Vytautas died here in 1430), and the earlier peninsula castle, begun around 1350-1377, whose ruins were declared a protected monument in 1933. The reserve is administered by the State Protected Areas Service, which runs a visitor center and nature school on the grounds.
