A short circular trail under a kilometer long follows this steep shore within the Lake Burtnieks Meadows Nature Reserve in Burtnieki Parish, Valmiera Municipality, starting near the Burtnieki Old Cemetery. Wave erosion has carved sandstone outcrops here that are described as the only ones of their kind found along a Latvian lakeshore, set among slope and ravine forest and fed by natural springs. The reserve shelters 31 specially protected species, from vascular plants and mosses to birds and invertebrates, while the nearby cemetery’s classicist chapel and gate are themselves a nationally protected architectural monument.
