Kalvių hillfort (Pilalė)

Graži vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis

On high ground along the left bank of the Šventoji River, this hillfort has a triangular plateau about 58 by 50 meters, ringed by a curved 102 meter rampart 1 meter high and 5 to 8 meters wide, with an outer moat 3 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep, followed by a second, lower rampart and moat. Dated to the 13th century and linked to the Kalvažemė stronghold of the Curonians mentioned in 1253, the site is heavily damaged by plowing and now overgrown with spruce and birch.
