Ignalinos garvežys

Graži vieta, Utenos apskritis

This preserved L series steam locomotive stands at the gates of the former Ignalina children's camp on Ežero gatvė, serving as the site's main landmark. It was built in 1954 and belongs to the L series, a Soviet postwar freight locomotive class named after engineer Lev Lebedyansky and notable for introducing the first mechanical coal feeder used on Russian railways. The engine operated in Lithuania between 1967 and 1976 before being retired and put on static display. Ignalina itself grew up around the Vilnius-Saint Petersburg railway line built in 1857-1862, so the locomotive also marks the town's railway origins.
