kopa Meškos Galva

Graži vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis

Meškos galva ("Bear's Head") is a rounded dune on the Curonian Spit about 4.5 km south of the Smiltynė ferry crossing, reaching roughly 36 meters in height, with the Smiltynė-Nida road cutting through it. Locals named it for a silhouette said to resemble a bear's head, and an observation platform on top offers views over both the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. Temporary barracks for forestry workers stood here in 1892 during the dune-afforestation project that wrapped up by 1895, and part of the dune's forest cover was later damaged by a 2006 fire.
