Vilkaviškio parkas

Graži vieta, Marijampolės apskritis

This city garden was laid out in 1928 to mark the tenth anniversary of Lithuanian independence, bordered by the Šeimena stream to the east, Vytauto Street to the north, and J. Basanavičiaus Street to the southwest. Under mayor Antanas Sajetas its original barbed-wire-fenced, linden-lined grounds were expanded with roughly 850 decorative trees and shrubs, and by 1933 it held a clay tennis court, benches, and a swimming pool. World War II heavily damaged the facilities, and the park today sits beside Vilkaviškis Cathedral as a quiet walking space rather than an actively developed recreation area.
