This granite monument, created by sculptor and painter Prof. Gintaris Juozas Česiūnas during a September 2024 sculptors' plein-air event in Zauliškiai village by the Strėva river, honors Viktoras Ruokis (born March 11, 1885 in Daubariškės; died December 26, 1971 in Kaišiadorys), a Lithuanian agronomist, soil scientist and agrochemist considered the founder of Lithuanian soil science. A corresponding member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences from 1947, he authored the first Lithuanian soil classification in 1930 and multiple soil-science textbooks, and was a professor and long-time department head at the Lithuania University of Agriculture from 1924 to 1968.
