This lookout tower stands within the grounds of the Plokštinė Cold War Museum, a former Soviet nuclear missile base inside Žemaitija National Park. The base was built from 1960 with four deep underground silos for R-12 Dvina nuclear missiles, decommissioned in 1978, and reopened to the public as a museum in 2012.
