The beach sits on Viitina järv (Lake Viitina), a 13-hectare lake in Rõuge Parish, Võru County, that reaches a maximum depth of 11.3 meters and holds three small islands. The lake is entered in Estonia's official bathing-water catalogue and its water quality is tracked in the Health Board's (Terviseamet) monitoring program. Local anglers also know the lake for its dragnet fishing competitions.
