Church of the Guardian Angels

Graži vieta, Alytaus apskritis

This Alytus parish church traces its origins to an 18th-century Chapel of St. Anne, with the current wooden church built in 1825-1830 and enlarged in 1878 with two side chapels that gave it a Latin-cross plan; the exterior was reclad and a cemetery added in 1905, and the bell tower burned in 1941 during World War II. It stands on a stone foundation with wooden walls and a metal roof, its symmetrical facade marked by a segmented-arch double doorway, a circular gable window and an octagonal bell tower topped with a cross. Inside, four columns divide the nave into three aisles beneath painted wooden ceilings, and the neobaroque interior holds five altars, including side altars to the Virgin Mary, St. Anthony, St. George and St. Casimir.
