Strūves meridiāna loka punkts "Jēkabpils" is one of the original stations of the Struve Geodetic Arc, the chain of triangulation points measured between 1816 and 1855 by astronomer Friedrich Georg Wilhelm Struve and topographer Carl Tenner to determine the Earth's exact size and shape. The Jēkabpils station was established and observed in May-June 1826 and stands in Strūves park in Jēkabpils; in 1931 it was re-marked with a memorial stone donated by Eduards Valters, a natural-sciences teacher at Jēkabpils Gymnasium. Together with the Sestukalns point, it is one of two Latvian stations of the arc, and one of 34 station points across ten countries, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
