Gegužinės Viešpaties Apreiškimo Švč. Mergelei Marijai bažnyčia

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

This parish was founded in 1520 at the confluence of the Neris and Bošė rivers. The current brick church, designed by architect Vaclovas Michnevičius, was begun in 1909 with funding from parishioners and pastor Juozapas Bučius, its walls raised and roof covered twice over 19 years of construction. After Bučius left in 1928, pastor Stanislovas Pupaleigis completed the work; the church was blessed in 1932 and consecrated in 1938. Noted interwar Lithuanian artist Vincentas Jakševičius worked on its interior decoration and died during that project. During 1944-1946, under parish priest Steponas Rudžionis-Vėjas, the church also hid the field headquarters of the "Didžiosios Kovos" partisan district and its commander "Žaliasis Velnias" (Green Devil), serving as both a house of prayer and a refuge for the anti-Soviet resistance.
