The Hill of Urbas

Apžvalgos vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis

Mount Urbo is located in Nida, one of the two higher pine-covered dunes protecting the landscape of the town. Visit Neringa points out that the name is associated with the word "urbti" - to drill holes for planting trees, as this place was important in the history of the afforestation of the Nida dunes. The Nida lighthouse stands on the Urba mountain, so the object naturally combines the natural dune, the history of the resort and a landmark for sailors. It's a good place for a short walk from the center of Nida, especially if you want a quieter route through the pine forest and realize how man-planted forests have stabilized the dunes. When visiting, it is worth sticking to the paths, because the slopes and vegetation of the Curonian Spit are sensitive to trampling.
