Valakavičių piliakalnis

Graži vieta, Vilniaus apskritis

Valakavičių piliakalnis is a hillfort on an isolated hill above the right bank of the Brasta river in Pabarė eldership, Šalčininkai district. Dated to the mid-1st through early 2nd millennium AD, its roughly circular platform measures about 22 by 20 metres and is bordered by earthen ramparts up to 2 metres high and a defensive ditch. Excavations recovered coarse and smoothed pottery and animal bones on the platform and at a 3-hectare settlement site at its foot; an 8th-12th century burial ground lies about 570 metres to the south. The site is now overgrown with deciduous trees and shrubs and has been damaged by ploughing.
