Nemunas Delta Regional Park, established in 1992 on the southeastern shore of the Curonian Lagoon, is one of Europe's most important bird areas - around 180 species have been recorded, with tens of thousands of migratory swans, geese and ducks stopping over each year, including up to 40,000 northern pintails and 50,000 long-tailed ducks in autumn. Recognized as a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 1993, it's also a key site for endangered species such as the aquatic warbler and bittern.
