Ivangėnų II piliakalnis

Graži vieta, Tauragės apskritis

Located about 100 meters southeast of the better known first Ivangėnai hillfort, on a promontory of the Suvirkštė river’s left bank in Skaudvilė eldership, Tauragė district, this trapezoid shaped hillfort platform measures 27 by 17 to 20 meters. Its eastern side carries a rampart roughly 3 meters high and 18 meters wide, fronted by a ditch about 15 meters wide, with slopes reaching some 10 meters. Archaeologists date its use from the mid first millennium into the 14th century and have suggested it may have served as an outer defense for the neighboring first hillfort, a question that limited 1997 excavations and further fieldwork begun in 2017 have not fully resolved.
