Ceriņu parks

Baldone's central park, known locally as Ceriņu parks, grew up around the town's mineral sulphur spring, first mentioned in written records from the 15th century when Livonian Order officials used its waters and reportedly called it the 'Fountain of Youth.' Baron Friedrich Georg von Lieven developed the spring site with an early bathhouse and a pavilion bearing inscriptions in German, Latin and Russian, and in September 1797 Russian Emperor Paul I ordered the founding of a proper spa there, which grew into a popular Soviet-era health resort. The park took its current name in 1985 and was renovated in 2018 with support from the Rietumu Bank charitable foundation; the spring itself, now called 'Ķirzaciņa,' remains Baldone's best-known natural landmark.
