Wood carvers filled this Varėna park with sculptures and benches retelling the origin legends and folk tales of Varėna, Perloja, Merkinė, Liškiava and other nearby places, lakes and rivers. Pathways lined with roughly 300 newly planted trees and shrubs, including maples, lindens and lilies of the valley, radiate outward from the reconstructed Vasario 16-osios Street, and the design borrows the bee and flower motifs from Varėna's coat of arms. Every last Saturday of September the grounds become the focal point of the town's mushroom-capital festivities.
