Skaņaiskalns

Graži vieta, Vidzeme

Skaņaiskalns is a 20 m high, 90 m long Devonian red-sandstone cliff on the Salaca River, famous as the strongest echo site in Latvia - its curved, parabolic shape reflects sound into a distinct echo, giving it the name 'Sounding Hill'. The surrounding Skaņaiskalns Nature Park has a 3 km trail through the most scenic stretch of the ancient Salaca valley, with sandstone outcrops, caves, springs and pine forest, passing named formations such as Vilkaču priede (Werewolf Pine), Velnakmens (Devil's Stone) and other sites steeped in local legend.
