Graži vieta, Kurzeme

This 66 meter hill sits at the junction of Kurzemes and Talsu streets in Tukums and offers a view over the town's church towers. Its Latvian name, meaning cook's hill, comes from a local legend that a Swedish army field kitchen once stood here during the Swedish-Polish War. During the German occupation of Kurzeme in World War I, people sentenced to death by military court, mostly captured Latvian riflemen along with some civilians, were buried on its slope, and their identities were only fully established in 1925.
