Vieta, Vidzeme
Located in the Launkalnes and Palsmanes parishes of Smiltenes novads in Latvia's Vidzeme region, this 812-hectare reserve was established in 2004 and is also registered as a Natura 2000 site under code LV0528000. It protects the valleys of the Rauza and Sepka streams, clean forest waterways that support colonies of two rare freshwater mussels listed in Latvia's Red Data Book: the freshwater pearl mussel and the thick-shelled river mussel. The reserve is managed by the Vidzeme regional administration of Latvia's Nature Conservation Agency. No public trails or visitor infrastructure are documented for the site, so its main value is protecting the streams' invertebrate populations rather than recreation.
