Ariogalos Dubysos valley

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

Cut by the Dubysa River on the edge of Ariogala, this stretch of valley has been praised for its scenery in every season and was celebrated in verse by the Lithuanian poet Maironis. A former gravel quarry within the valley filled in to become a lake locals call Žemsiurbė, while a stadium built into the low ground by land-reclamation workers now hosts the town's festivals and public celebrations. The valley falls within Dubysa Regional Park, established in 1992 to protect the river's steep-sided ancient glacial valley.
